Recycling is inherently environmental. But at Bob's Metals, we go far beyond the baseline β investing millions in stormwater treatment technology that makes us one of the cleanest scrap facilities in the United States.
Our stormwater treatment system is the centerpiece of our environmental commitment. This advanced electrocoagulation system collects and processes every drop of stormwater runoff from our entire 14-acre facility β ensuring that nothing leaves our site untreated.
The system uses enhanced filtration technology to remove suspended solids, heavy metals, emulsified oils, and bacteria from stormwater before it enters our DEQ-approved Underground Infiltration Gallery (UIC). The result: water that is cleaner leaving our site than the rainwater that falls on it.
Enhanced electrocoagulation filtration targets the contaminants most commonly found in scrap metal yard runoff.
Particulate matter, sediment, and debris from yard operations are captured before they can enter the water table.
Dissolved metals including zinc, lead, copper, and chromium are removed through electrocoagulation to safe levels.
Cutting fluids, hydraulic oils, and petroleum products from scrap processing are separated and captured.
Biological contaminants are neutralized through the treatment process, producing clean, safe infiltration water.
Most scrap metal yards in the United States rely on basic stormwater retention ponds and settling basins β passive systems that meet minimum regulatory requirements but don't actively treat contaminated runoff.
Bob's Metals invested in active electrocoagulation treatment because we believe the minimum isn't enough. Our system treats stormwater to a standard that exceeds DEQ requirements β making us one of the only zero-discharge scrap metal facilities in the country.
When you partner with Bob's Metals, your scrap is processed at a facility that meets the highest environmental standards. For companies with sustainability requirements, ESG reporting, or environmental compliance mandates, this matters.
